NEIL COWIE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE – MITRE 10
Mitre 10 Chief Executive Neil Cowie received the 2017 Co-operative Leader of the Year award in recognition of his significant co-operative leadership within both his own organisation and across the co-op sector.
Winner of the 2017 Co-operative Leader of the Year award, Mitre 10 boss Neil Cowie had, in the opinion of his nominator, Mitre 10 Chairman Martin Dippie, and the judging panel clearly demonstrated the four criteria for this award:
- Co-operative leadership;
- Vision and courage for the co-operative model;
- Successful initiatives that have benefited their co-operative or the co-operative sector; and
- Commitment and support of well-recognised and accepted co-operative principles.
Craig Presland says Neil Cowie, who joined Mitre 10 as Chief Executive Officer in 2013, has shown outstanding co-operative leadership.
“Neil truly believes in the spirit of co-operation where the big help the small, the old mentor the young and where a co-operative spirit encourages sustained collaboration, innovation and change. He has encouraged several initiatives that have supported local communities and has also driven improved member economic participation and financial benefits. He represented and promoted Mitre 10 as a co-operative with success at a recent international forum.
“Over the 2016/17 year, Mitre 10 moved into a purpose-built Support Centre in Albany, a project which he led for three years, and has driven value and improvements in the areas of co-operative governance training, capital re-structuring, health safety, technology and marketing – all benefitting his co-operative,” Craig says.
