What does the programme cover?
With a mix of theory and practical session (including group exercises and case studies), attendees cover governance topics including:
- The co-operative difference
- Governing in a co-op – a brief refresher
- Working with shareholders
- Ensuring continued success beyond the current board
- Working with the Chief Executive
- The board’s role in strategy and risk
- Good boardroom practice, for reaching good decisions
Included in the programme cost is morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea on both days, alongside a networking dinner and drinks on the evening of day one.
Who should attend?
- Existing directors
- New and/or aspiring chairs of co-operative company boards
- Chairs of co-operative board committees
- Aspiring directors with some governance experience
- Senior executives of co-operatives wanting a greater understanding of how to work with their board
The programme is facilitated by Richard Westlake and Vaughan Renner, two of New Zealand’s most experienced governance presenters. Richard and Vaughan have significant personal experience as directors and chairs of companies including co-operatives.

Duration
Day one: 9.00am – 5.00pm, followed by networking dinner and drinks from 6.00pm at a venue nearby
Day two: 9.00am – 5.00pm

- Members of the Institute of Directors or related professional bodies should qualify for 16 CPD points
