Date

23–24 April 2025 | Wellington

Time:

Wednesday 23rd full day
Thursday 24th half day

Venue:

St Andrews on the Terrace, 30 The Terrace, Wellington

Held over 1.5 days in Wellington, this event will bring together students, activists, thought leaders, policy makers, and emerging leaders to explore transformative alternatives to the current economic system.

While capitalism continues to dominate, many New Zealanders believe we can do better at shaping the economy to reflect our shared values of empathy, fairness, and community wellbeing. This conference will delve into policy, systemic change, and practical, community-led solutions that move beyond profit-driven models.

In this year, the International Year of Cooperatives, it’s significant that a key focus will be on the power of co-operative and mutual models to deliver economic democracy and long-term resilience. Successful examples like Farmlands, FMG, Network Tasman Trust, the Cooperative Bank, and NBS demonstrate how profits can be shared more equitably, decisions made more democratically, and organisations protected from predatory practices. There is strong potential to further expand co-operatives into other sectors such as energy and banking to aged care and retail.
Join us for this inspiring and solutions-focused event that challenges the status quo and explores how co-operative values can help shape a more just and sustainable future.
