Inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award: John DeBernardo recognised for outstanding contribution to sector

By Cooperative Business New Zealand | March 2023
The Cooperative Business NZ Board recently introduced a new ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in recognition of individuals who give of themselves freely, often over the course of their lives, to the co-operative and mutual community. The inaugural recipient is John DeBernardo.

Whether it be within their own member owned business community, or across our member owned business community, we want to ensure they are given the appropriate recognition.

This award will be presented at our various events to these special individuals who ensure that our business model continues to thrive and prosper.

The inaugural recipient was NZPM Chair John DeBernardo who received the award at the March 2023 Leading with Impact Summit. John has given his time and expertise selflessly to the co-operative community for decades.

John understands the value of co-operatives inside and out, living and breathing the co-op principles. In particular, his commitment to NZPM’s members’ economic participation, continuous education, and focus on community initiatives has played a pivotal role in the co-operative’s ongoing success. The NZPM team noted that in is in large part thanks to John that they were named the Co-operative Business of the Year in 2021.

Congratulations, John. Thank you for all you have done for the co-operative community. A well deserved recognition!
