Westlake Governance Limited is a globally-focused, New Zealand-based consulting business with its founder, Richard Westlake, a popular and very effective presenter at Cooperative Business NZ’s governance seminars for several years now.
Westlake Governance clients come from a wide cross-section of the co-operative, commercial, not-for-profit, quasi-government, and government sectors including advice and guidance provided to some of New Zealand’s largest and most significant organisations.
Richard Westlake is a Chartered Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, with over 20 years’ experience as a Director and Board Chairman.
An MA graduate from Oxford University (and an Oxford rowing ‘Blue’), Richard has a strong co-operative knowledge including serving as the first independent director of the Dairy Goat Co-operative, the world’s leading producer of goat’s milk infant formulas; recently becoming board chair of the Organic Dairy Hub Co-operative; advising the Fonterra Shareholders’ Council; and leading governance workshops in Sydney for Rabobank.
Along with other New Zealand-based appointments, Richard sits on the board of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), one of the largest banks in the Philippines.
“At Westlake Governance, we’re delighted to be strengthening this association with Cooperative Business NZ,” says Richard.
“Our business is to make a difference to people who are themselves making a difference, so we believe this is a perfect fit for both parties.”
Cooperative Business NZ Chief Executive Craig Presland says his view of Richard is best summed up by a testimonial (see right) that he came across recently.
“Richard is, in all likelihood, the leading governance presenter and adviser here in New Zealand on both co-operative and corporate governance,” Craig says. “Feedback from our Members attending his co-operative governance seminars over recent years has been overwhelmingly positive.
“Cooperative Business NZ seeks to provide outstanding support services to its Members, these currently generating almost one-fifth of NZ’s GDP and serving around one-in-three Kiwis as Members. We are delighted to have Westlake Governance Ltd come on board with us as a Corporate Associate Member, this membership category being awarded to non – cooperatives which we know will provide an excellent level of service and support to our Members.”
