Share registries and member relations

Co-operatives need a robust registry system not only to comply with legal requirements of the Co-operative Companies Act 1996, but also to maintain clear communications with members and ensure they are ready to raise and manage new capital from members or sometimes from other investors.

scaling up?

WHEN Your Co-op Needs a Smarter Member Management Solution

Many cooperatives start out by managing their member registry on Excel or Google Sheets, and while this will work for a small number of members, with limited data, problems often arise over time.

A co-op may find the amount of time taken to report and communicate with members becomes unwieldy, information falls out of date or manual errors are made in paying rebates.

At that point, it may benefit from a software solution that will offer more sophistication, automation and digitisation, and finally data security.

A co-op scaling up will look for opportunities to preserve resources, automate processes, customise workflows and present professionally to members and auditors.

a history of collaboration

BCCM’s partnership with Syndex

Our sister organisation, the BCCM, began collaborating with Syndex in 2021, launching a pilot project that quickly demonstrated its value to Australian agricultural co-operatives. The pilot focused on the unique needs of co-operatives, such as managing patronage rebates, membership requirements, and member communications. Based on its success, the partnership has expanded to bring tailored digital registry solutions to the wider co-operative sector.

Founded in New Zealand in 2014, Syndex aims to make private markets more efficient and accessible, providing businesses with automated tools to manage complex administration, communications, and registry functions. Since 2016, Syndex has supported New Zealand co-operatives with a platform designed specifically for the sector.

For investors, Syndex enhances access to alternative investments by improving transparency, liquidity, and price discovery.

For users, it empowers cooperatives to manage member relations and operations in-house, streamlining tasks like compliance, capital raising, and share issuance—without the need for third-party intermediaries.
