Cooperative Business New Zealand is thrilled to welcome its 55th and latest Full Member, the 100% New Zealand owned and operated national food distributor Foodfirst. This highly successful co-operative has 19 locally owned distributors and 22 distribution centres throughout the country and a National Support Centre in Auckland.
Foodfirst was established in 1987 and was then known as New Zealand Associated Refrigerated Food Distributors with nine distributors. Ever since it has literally delivered the best service and food to its customers with over 260 temperature-controlled vehicles delivering a range of 10,000 frozen, chilled and ambient products daily throughout the country.
Thousands of satisfied customers include locally owned restaurants, catering and food businesses and national, corporate and franchise accounts.
Cooperative Business NZ Chief Executive, Craig Presland, first met with Foodfirst’s General Manager, Barry O’Neill (pictured left), in May following an online Member application being completed by Barry via Cooperative Business NZ’s website.
Foodfirst’s Full Membership status was then unanimously approved by the Cooperative Business Board in June.
“Foodfirst is an excellent example of a NZ-owned business that has survived locally despite the presence of larger overseas-owned competitors in the market.
“They have achieved this through solidarity among its Members, innovation and strong customer service. We’re thrilled to have them on board as a Full Member.”
