Mutual Value Measurement Framework© (MVM)

One of the greatest challenges for cooperatives and mutuals is to be able to quantify and articulate the value that your businesses create. Often the financial metrics of corporate success are not easily applied when there is a mutual business purpose.

MVM© is the first methodology for impact measurement designed with and by co-ops and mutuals, and the world’s first accredited framework for measuring this total value. It helps co-ops, mutuals and member-owned firms articulate their mutual value through a set of common dimensions and shared language. By viewing the organisation through the lens of mutual value, co-ops and mutuals can systematically identify, measure and report on the value they create.

Cooperative Business NZ Full Members have access to the BCCM member MVM© licence and accreditation discount.

Each year Full, Provisional and Corporate Associate Members are eligible to nominate an emerging leader for the Emerging Leader of the Year Award. This award is presented to an individual aged 35 and under who is making their mark within their member organisation.

It aims to recognise contribution through innovation, driving best practice, collaboration or co-operation.

From 2024, the winner of the Emerging Leader of the Year award is also invited to join the Cooperative Business NZ board as a Board Observer for the following calendar year, to develop their governance skills and deepen their cooperative networks. The 2024 Emerging Leader of the Year winner and 2025 Board Observer was Ashleigh Buchanan, Operations Manager People Capabilities at Southern Cross Health Society.
